Denver Quarterly is historically known as an experimental or avant-garde publication, and our readers are intimately aware of that reputation, selecting poems, stories, and essays that have a more intellectual or academic lean—that being said, our readers each come with different literary tastes and backgrounds, rarely sticking to only one kind of writing. Personally, I look for a sense of surprise, complicated emotional resonance, or something particularly thought-provoking.
